If you are one of those people who have ever thought, "I need to lose weight," but have not done anything about it, or if you are looking to lose just ten pounds quickly, then you might want to read on because there are some key points that are going to be essential to your weight loss goals. In my opinion weight loss comes down to two things, exercise and eating. I know, those are two very sensitive subjects, but if you are really serious about losing weight and getting healthy at the same time then these two subjects need to be addressed. Sure, you can lose weight my taking some pills or getting your stomach stapled, but if you do not change your eating and exercise habits you will be in worse condition then when you started. For right now lets just focus on what you eat, because just eating differently will help you jump start you weight loss.

Lets start off by breaking down the food arena. Food is probably the most important key to your weight loss. Most people are over weight because they eat badly, so lets try to correct that. Okay, the hardest part is starting, if you can just get past the first three days of your new eating habits it will continue to get easier, and once you start seeing results you will become even more motivated to eat better. But this means that you are going to have to make some sacrifices and that means less eating out, less drinking, less ice cream, less cookies and eating smaller portions. I never used to think that eating out was such a big deal, until a recent law was passed in Washington State that made restaurants have to show their nutritional facts. I was absolutely shocked by what I was eating in one meal. What I should have been eating in a whole day; I was eating in one meal at a restaurant. There are some restaurants that I used to go to all the time, which I have not been back to because I finally saw the filth they were putting in their food. So I learned how to cook, coupled with today's economy it is cheaper to prepare your own food than it is to go out and eat all the time.

Another way to lose weight is kicking out the sugar, and having a high protein diet. Not only is protein good for you, but also it makes your body have to work harder to break down the food, resulting in feeling more full and quick weight loss. Your portion size is another way to lose weight. We constantly shove food down our face until we are full, but along doing that, work on eating until you are comfortable. It takes about 20 minute for your body to tell you that you are full, so allow that 20 minutes to take place. I know this might sounds difficult, but also remember it is okay to reward yourself once in awhile with a treat, just make sure you do not go overboard.

Occasionally you will want to start an exercise program to complement your eating habits, it will help you speed up your metabolism and improve the health of your heart. Whether you decide to go to the gym or begin an at home workout program, just doing something active will help you so much.
