Osteoporosis is a term that describes bones which are less than "normal". It is a disease that affects both men and women and it causes about 1.5 million bone fractures each year.
We are now being warned that 1 out of 2 women over the age of 50 will be affected by osteoporosis sometimes during the reminder of her life. The sad fact is that this deterioration of the bones may go unnoticed until it becomes full blown and painful.
It is caused by the bones losing their minerals – especially calcium. The spine, hips, and wrists are most commonly affected, but any bone in the body is suspect.
As this disease progresses, it develops from the milder osteopenia into osteoporosis and because the bones become so fragile, it hinders those who have it from leading normal lives. Often in sever cases, a bone may break during ordinary bending or lifting or even sneezing.
The good news is that osteopenia and osteoporosis are now preventable and even reversible with natural methods. Not only are the drugs that are prescribed expensive and riddled with side effects, but they do not help to prevent or reverse bone loss.
Healthy eating and the proper supplements can rebuild healthy bones. Do not be fooled by advertisements that claim that drugs will do this. There is no drug on the market that will help like good wholesome food. Many are believing that they can prevent unhealthy bones by taking calcium. If only that were true, the country might have no problem today.
The truth is that there are several minerals needed and if you have too much calcium and not enough of the other minerals to balance it, the calcium will not help your bones at all.[ad_2]
