Drinking water is important if you’re trying to lose weight – studies show that thirst and hunger are triggered together. If you are dehydrated, this may be mistaken for hunger and one may eat when the body is actually craving fluid. As most food contains some water, you may be driven to eat more to gain the necessary water supply. Drinking more water can help to prevent overeating and benefit weight loss.
When you drink the required daily intake of water, you will very quickly notice a decrease in your appetite. If you’re serious about becoming leaner and healthier, drinking water is an absolute must. If you’re doing everything else right and still not seeing results, this might be the missing link.
The recommended intake of water is eight glasses a day. Eight glasses amounts to about two quarts of water. This is okay for the average person, but if you’re overweight, you should drink another glass for every 25 pounds of excess weight you carry. You should also increase this if you live in a hot climate or exercise regularly.
Water consumption should be spread throughout the day. It’s not healthy at all to drink too much water at one time. Try to pick three or four times during the day when you can have a big glass of water, and then sip in between. Don’t let yourself get thirsty. If you feel thirsty, you’re already becoming dehydrated. Its important to make drinking water a habit in your daily routine.
