As I am writing about how to lose weight, I am trying not to get the delicious icing or brownie crumbs on my laptop. And as I consume this delicious brownie, along with my extra sweet iced tea, I am thinking about how I look and feel better at age 43 than I did at age 23. And how I did go from 185 lbs. to 158 lbs. and keep it off? I was able to resist temptations to eat brownies and drink sugary drinks- well, most of the time.
The big secret to losing weight and keeping it off is to allow what many call a "cheat meal." I know, I know. We hear all over the place, "do not cheat or you'll gain it back," and many variations of that statement, but I really believe that it is what we do most of the time that counts. Everyone needs to let the hair down and eat something good. Here's why cheat meals will help to lose weight and keep it off.
Why Cheat Meals Are Important
If you always deprive yourself of the naughty foods, such as steak, cake, and sodas, you will ever break down. It is only human nature. Temptation is too great, especially when you go out to dinner with your friends or coworkers and you sit right next to Joe, who has just ordered a turtle cheese cake, and Janet, who has ordered a margarita for dessert. Believe me, you will want to join them.
How To Do Your Cheat Meal
It is a good idea to plan the cheat meal to be your restaurant excursion. Then you know when you go to the steak house that will be when you order your cheat meal for the week. Order whatever you want, and eat until you are full. Then go back to your diet.
Also, it is important to have a cheat meal , and not a cheat day . If you want to stay on track, cheat with only one meal per week, not two or three. Having more than one will most certainly throw off your diet program, because Calories come too easily. One meal at a restaurant can set you back as much as 2500 Calories.
This raises another point: do not cheat too big. Try not to gorge yourself until you are insanely full. You can have a delicious homemade brownie like mine without going overboard. It's all about the taste, right? You do not need to eat three brownies to get the taste in your mouth. Cheat sensibly, and enjoy what you are eating.
After eating your cheat meal, go back to business as usual. Stick with your diet religiously, and look forward to your next cheat meal. The key is when you feel like cheating, you tell yourself to, instead of cheating, wait for that cheat meal. You know it's coming, so you will not feel as much like you are missing out on the goodies because you will have a chance to get the goodies in your mouth later.
Cheat meals are important part of knowing how to lose weight. So stick to your diet most of the time. Then have your cheat meal one time a week, and enjoy life. Fulfill your craving with that homemade brownie and sweet tea, and then go back to your diet. Break up the monotony and have a more exciting diet.
